RBHS ADOPTION FORM Adoption PolicyPlease read our adoption policy and initial/sign the adoption agreement. Adopters must be 18 years of age or older to adopt and have a valid government issued ID. All dogs & cats in the home where the animal is to live must be spayed/neutered and current on their Rabies and Feline or Canine Distemper vaccinations. A consistent history of vaccinations and veterinary visits is also required. The owner of the property where the animal is to live must approve and give consent for the animal to reside on that property. This means that ownership of the home will be verified and landlords will be contacted to confirm the pet policy. Emotional support animals (ESA) are not exempt from this policy. The adopter must be in compliance with local pet ordinances. RBHS will not adopt animals into a home when doing so would cause that home to be out of compliance. Ordinances may include limits on numbers of animals, species/breed restrictions and vaccination or licensing requirements and vary from one city/county/state to another. The adopter must be financially able to provide for the animal’s particular needs. This is determined on a case by case basis in relation to the animal. The new owner will be taking on the responsibility of keeping the animal up to date on vaccinations, also following any city ordinance that are required such as a city license. The home must be an appropriate fit for the animal’s needs. This is determined on a case by case basis since all animals and homes are different. Our animals are available on a first-come, first served basis. An approved application does not guarantee that an animal will still be available in the future or that it will be held for an approved adopter. An approved application for one animal does not guarantee that an RBHS application will be approved by the same adopter for a different animal. All animals leaving RBHS will be spayed/neutered, microchipped and current on their vaccinations prior to being adopted. All of our animals have detailed records of their time in our shelter and what we know about them prior to their arrival here. We will pass on everything we know about the animal to the adopters. To the best of our knowledge, the animals we place up for adoption are healthy with no communicable diseases though sometimes the stress of moving into a new home can cause minor issues (such as diarrhea or cold-like upper respiratory illnesses) Any known health issue or physical abnormalities that we know about will be disclosed of prior to adoption. You are assuming all responsibility of the animal once the adoption is finalized. All animals we place for adoption have been evaluated for their temperaments and any concerns will be disclosed prior to adoption. We do not adopt out any animals that we assess to pose a danger to others. No evaluation is perfect & we can’t always know how they will react in every situation so we encourage adopters to be patient as they learn their new animals’ personality. We encourage communication regarding adopted animals and are happy to offer recommendations if any issues arise. We do not issue cash refunds for adoption fees if the adoption is not successful. We do issue credits that can be used for a future adoption if the animal is returned within the first 21 days after the adoption. No gifting of an animal. If we find out you gave an animal to somebody else we reserve the right to seize the animal and add you to our Do Not Adopt List. If you are unable to care for the animal that you adopted from us, please call us at the shelter at 651-388-5286 to see if we have space to take the animal back. We try to take back all of our adopted animals but can not guarantee it.
